frustration | electra heart

Today I had to get up and run to my store to give some keys to a coworker. Since I was going to be in that part of town anyway I figured I'd swing by the Social Security Office and finally get my married name documented. It's on a street with not much space for parking, so I had to circle the building a few times until I found one. Luckily I got a good spot up front, and I had a book with me just in case, because I've heard it can take forever to get helped there. I walked in and the security guard told me that I was in the right place, but the office closes at Noon on Wednesdays. Just Wednesdays....of course, the day I chose. I was a little disappointed, but it was fine, no big deal. I decided to just go to the DMV and get my driver's license changed next. I wasn't sure where it was exactly because I hadn't been there in years, so I called my mom to ask. She gave me general directions and I thought I could figure it out from there, plus use my iPhone maps. Bad idea. The map app is the most awful thing ever. It had no idea where I wanted to go apparently and I started to get so frustrated with it that I pulled into a parking lot to call my mom again. She gave me better directions and I tried again. Once I finally found it I was in the wrong lane and nobody would let me over...{hmm, typical Utah} so I had to turn around and go back. I was starting to get really annoyed because it was just a waste of gas to be driving up and down these streets and not getting anywhere. Finally I pulled in to the DMV and filled out an application, and luckily the wait time was very short. I walked up to the desk and the guy working asked me if I had my birth certificate and my Social Security card. Um, nope.
I thought all I needed was my marriage license...apparently the law changed 3 years ago.
I was so frustrated because I had driven in circles to get to these places and I felt like I was finally getting something done that I've been waiting to do for 2 1/2 months. It's truly not a big deal and I can always go back, I don't need it right away...I had just been putting it off and the day I decided to do it everything went wrong. I was so irritated that I had to find a way to chill out, since I was around town anyway I just did a little retail therapy. I bought a cute wooden "G" from Michael's so I can start a new craft project and some note cards for my pen pals. I just love writing and receiving letters! It's my favorite.
That definitely cheered me up, and everything was fine afterward, I just had a rough afternoon!

On Monday night Crystal, Jerrica and I went down to Salt Lake to see Marina & the Diamonds in concert. She's an adorable little British pop star who I heard of through Crystal and many of her songs actually play at my work. Her music is super fun and her voice is lovely, so I was glad to see she was coming to Utah!
We got all dolled up and fancy for the show, and stood at the top balcony {21 + section woo!}
I had a blast! She is great live, full of energy and very talented. We sang and danced and had a really good time.

If you haven't heard of her I definitely recommend checking her out. She is different and may not be for everyone, but I adore her!

candles & card games

On Monday Taran and I went down to my grandma's house to celebrate her birthday. A few other family members came as well and we had pizza. We tried to find birthday candles for her cake but she doesn't have any in her house, so instead we took some candle sticks and stuck them in the cake. Whatever works right?
It was great to see her smiling and having a good time. She really deserves to have things around her that make her smile, because she deserves to be happy despite everything.

Last night Crystal, Jerrica and I had a girls night. I had such a good time hanging out with my best friends and just being our weird selves. We had some drinks, watched Pitch Perfect and played games {somehow we always end up playing In A Pickle, but it's so much fun I don't even care} I laugh so much when I'm with them and I don't have to worry about anything. I hope we still have our girl's nights when we're 30, 40...even 50!
When we woke up this morning we all decided to go have some breakfast. The snow was awful to drive in, and I literally looked like I rolled out of bed and went there {oh wait I kinda did, ha!} But it was a good end to a good night with them. I wish we got to see each other more often, but I'm grateful for the times we do get to hang out. And I know we'll start having more nights to hang out soon :)

The Miserable

Last night Crystal, Jerrica and I went out to the movies and I finally got to see Les Mis. I had been waiting for it since I heard they were casting which was a year. When I heard the casting choices I was disappointed in some and excited for others. Hugh Jackman is amazing and I feel like he can do anything, but he was a little overshadowed by Anne Hathaway whom the world would not shut up about. Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of her, but I feel like all I was constantly hearing was she was the lead and blah blah blah. If anyone knows even a summary of the story they would know that it is about and revolves around Jean Vajean....played by Hugh Jackman.

Anyway, I hate listening to reviews because I feel like it spoils my experience so I avoid them as much as I can.
After sitting through the film {which is like 3 hours long....this is why broadway has intermission O.o } I was able to finally say what I thought of it and that is that I really liked it. I didn't love it. I wouldn't pay to see it in theaters again. I might not buy it when it comes out but it was good. I did like it.
I'll be honest, I was skeptical of Anne Hathaway and she truly was great. I didn't know she could sing and she proved me wrong. I was impressed. {plus singing whilst sobbing...I would sound like a dying moose probably. Props to her}
I won't get too much into it, but as for Russell Crowe.....just....no. He tried, but....no. He didn't nearly do justice to the character of Javert, the passion was lacking and he didn't grasp it.
It's just hard for me to accept that they settled for him when there are many actors who could have blown that character out of the water.

Also, Amanda Seyfried did nothing for me. I've never loved Cosette but the fact that she was played by Amanda Seyfriend sort of doubled that. Not a fan of her or her voice.
And I'm sorry, but she will never be anything but Karen from Mean Girls to me. Half the time I expect her to say "if you're from Africa, why are you white?"

Hugh Jackman was great, he pulled off Jean Valjean well. I may be biased because I loves me some Hugh...but I personally think he was splendid.

Samantha Barks as Eponine was just great. Wish the role was bigger so I could have seen more of her. Glad that role didn't go to someone unworthy. {*cough*Taylor Swift}

Sasha Baron Cohen and Helena Bonham Carter were such good comedic relief. They really made the role their own.

Everyone else was fine, I have no remarks on their performances and they did make some smart choices with some of the cast. Even some of the smaller parts were good.

That's really all I need to say about the film. Thought it was good, but I wasn't captivated.
{Also I didn't cry, but I don't tend to cry from movies anyway. Or very often at all....}

Disneyland Magic

Well folks, I'm home from the happiest place on earth. And that place really sticks to it's saying! I had so much fun, I wish I was still there.

We drove straight through on the first day. {12 hours, yuck yuck yuck!} Actually, it didn't feel like that long, the car ride was pretty entertaining. We sang Disney songs and chatted the whole time.
Sunday was Jerrica's birthday and the park was open from 9AM-12AM, which was pretty perfect because we did every single thing we could that day. It was exhausting spending that many hours in both the parks, but it was definitely worth it. I had so much fun riding the rides and seeing the characters, also enjoying my two excited best friends spending every minute with me. I rode Space Mountain for the first time, and although it almost gave me a heart attack I ended up loving it. Especially the Ghost Galaxy version. Yay Halloween!
I also rode Tower of Terror for the first time too, and I'm officially in love with that ride.
That night we even got to see the firework show and Fantasmic!

The next couple days were just repeats of things, and we just enjoyed our time there. The lines were perfect and we hardly had to wait for any rides. We met more characters, and even some villains were out and about, which are always my favorite.
We ate Churros, and Dole Whip, and frozen lemonade. Rode the rides multiple times, took pictures and had a blast.
A couple highlights:

- One day I ended up losing my sunglasses on Indiana Jones {well...not really a highlight, but I thought it was funny.}
- The Haunted Mansion was decked out for Halloween, and was Nightmare Before Christmas themed
- The Sounsational Parade
- Lots of shopping. I bought the greatest jacket with a skull on it that says 'Pirates of the Caribbean' and an adorable t-shirt with Lady on it.
- Making new inside jokes
- Riding the new Little Mermaid ride, awesome because it was one thing that the three of us were seeing for the first time
- CHURROS!
- Star Tours....it is seriously amazing.
- Getting autographs in my book like a kid.
- Jerrica and Crystal getting their birthday pins and hearing everyone say "Happy Birthday!" to them.

The last day was Crystal's birthday, and we spent the day in both parks. We went on Crystal's favorite ride a couple times {Soarin' Over California} and had lunch at her favorite spot.
That night we got to watch World of Color, and it is truly one of the coolest things I have ever experienced. If you ever plan a trip to Disneyland you have to go over to California Adventure one night and see it. It made my jaw drop within the first minute of the show.
The next morning we drove halfway home and stayed the night in St. George, where we spent our time goofing off and laughing our butts off.
We got home on Friday and I was already missing it!

It was a great adventure, and I had so much fun making memories with my two wonderful best friends. I love them beyond explanation and I'm so lucky I got to share their birthdays with them!

Mickey Mouse

I had tripod issues today so this was the best picture I got! The whole outfit is from Wet Seal and the shoes are from Marshall's :)

Today I spent my day off with my two amazing best friends! In September they'll both be turning 23 so we have planned a trip to Disneyland to celebrate both of their birthdays. Today we got together and made "Disney Money" boxes.
We wrapped up some shoe boxes and decorated them, then cut a whole in top where we will throw money and loose change in it every chance we get and that will be any extra spending money for the trip! I thought the idea was brilliant and we had a blast making them.
After we were done we went and gone ice cream and took a walk in the park {which was short-lived because it got pretty chilly really quick!}

It was a lovely day.
